Carnival’s Fathom brand has announced ports of call and a preliminary schedule of land excursions for its upcoming Cuba cruises.
The seven-day itinerary includes three port calls in Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.
Fathom’s sample itineraries reveal the kind of activities guests on the ‘social impact’ cruises can expect.
The excursions will ‘focus on supporting cultural exchange and economic development for the Cuban people through artistic, educational and humanitarian activities,’ the line said.
Activities in Havana include a walking tour of the city, and meetings with Cuban artists, writers and entrepreneurs.
In Cienfuegos, guests will come ashore to visit an elementary school and take part in classes, and visit the historic UNESCO World Heritage town of Trinidad.
Santiago de Cuba excursions will focus on Cuban rum, cigars and music heritage.
"Fathom travelers will have the chance to interact, one-on-one, with artists, musicians, small business owners, health workers and others to learn about all aspects of Cuban society and to connect and share insights and stories," Fathom president Tara Russell said.
Onboard the ship guests will enjoy lectures, film screenings and Cuban music performances.
Fathom’s Cuba cruises are expected to begin in May 2016, subject to approval by the Cuban authorities.
