Feature: Travel and Tourism Programme
A note from the Travel and Tourism Programme:
Leisure, travel and tourism companies support the Travel and Tourism Programme’s activities.
A range of resources to help teachers delivering courses in leisure, travel and tourism have been devised by Springboard Charitable Trust’s national education programme, with the support of leading leisure, travel and tourism companies.
The Travel and Tourism Programme (TTP) has produced a range of resources for these subjects, which are becoming increasingly popular amongst school and college students throughout the UK . New teachers’ resource files and training events have been produced for a range of courses including the new GCSE Leisure and Tourism as well as BTEC and AVCE courses. The TTP is recognised as the UK’s leading provider of information and training for teachers delivering hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism courses in schools and colleges.
The new 750 page teachers’ resource file for GCSE Leisure and Tourism includes detailed teachers’ notes, over 100 student activities and work sheets, and over 40 case studies from companies such as Camelot Theme Park, Whitbread plc, British Airport Authority, National Maritime Museum, American Express, Ironbridge Gorge Museum and Thomas Cook Retail.
Also now available is a teacher’s resource file on Sustainable Tourism. This resource is a useful tool for teaching both vocational courses and Citizenship studies. Produced with the support of the English Tourism Council, the resource contains details of sustainable tourism strategies and 13 case studies of visitor attractions. The provision of these products runs alongside a programme of teacher in-service training events at leading venues and attractions.
Events are being held during Autumn term 2003 at Camelot theme park, Scottish Seabird centre, Balckpool Pleasure Beach, Drusillas Park and The Deep. Teaching resources will then be developed based on all these leading attractions.
John Humphreys, Director of the Travel and Tourism Programme, said: “Our work with teachers delivering these courses pointed out that there was a need for resources in these areas. We hope that these resources and their extensive case studies will fill the gap and help teachers bring the subject to life for students. We couldn’t produce the resources without the help of our industry partners providing case studies and we would love to hear from other organisations who could support the programme.”
