Fire alarm sparks Gatwick terminal evacuation
Flights out of London Gatwick have been disrupted this morning due to a fire alert at the South Terminal.
Passengers in the terminal were evacuated out of the terminal building.
The fire alarm was activated but there was no fire, an airport spokesperson said.
“Our dedicated fire service swiftly attended and confirmed there was no fire. Passengers are being allowed back into the departure lounge.”
Some passengers claimed on social media they missed their flights, while others posted they were told ‘all flights not departing.’
However, most agreed there was little communication to passengers stuck outside the terminal.
“Was all very sudden and chaotic for a while. People running around everywhere and very confused,” one user posted on X.
“South Terminal Departure Lounge was evacuated for a short time this morning due to a fire alarm activation. We resolved the situation as quickly as possible,’ s statement issued by the airport said.
Gatwick passengers were also impacted earlier this week during a Border Force systems outage affecting e-gates at airports around the country.
