Five convicted of manslaughter over Costa Concordia disaster
Five people have been convicted of manslaughter, negligence and shipwreck for their part in the Costa Concordia disaster.
Two officers, the helmsman, the head of cabin services and the head of the crisis team have agreed to plea bargains and were given sentences of between 18 and 34 months.
The crisis head, Roberto Ferranini, got the highest sentence for two years and 10 months.
But it’s possible that none of the five will spend any time in prison because the sentences of under two years were suspended and the longer ones may be appealed or replaced with community service.
Costa Concordia Captain, Francesco Schettino, is being tried separately.
His trial has been postponed until September 23, after the summer break.
