Flair Airlines faces seizure order for millions in unpaid tax
Under pressure Canadian carrier Flair Airlines could see some of its property seized after tax authorities took action over an unpaid tax bill.
The Canada Revenue Agency secured a seizure order as the airline owes $67.2 million in unpaid taxes.
It relates to import duties on Boeing 737 Max jets, said CEO Stephen Jones.
It won’t have any impact on immediate flight operations, he says.
“We have a mutually agreed-upon payment plan with CRA to pay these importation duties, and we are current with that plan,” Jones said.
“As a last resort, we may take additional legal collection actions such as seizing property or assets to protect the interests of the Crown,” said CRA spokesperson Nina Ioussoupova.
Flair has been struggling financially for a number of years, although it hasn’t significantly impacted operations so far.
Last year an aircraft lessor repossessed four planes.
