FlightScanner desktop won’t just be no-frills
The company that launched FlightScanner, the agency web tool for browsing no-frills fares, is unveiling a desktop product that is integrated with GDSs.
Dolphin Dynamics founder and president, Roberto da Re (pictured), said the desktop product will be launched next month at WTM. He said it will be integrated with GDSs, have an XML data feed option, and a data capture function in the back office, so agents can review bookings. More details will be revealed at WTM.
Mr da Re said that the no-frills browser, FlightScanner was far outperforming his expectations. The number of European travel agents now using the system has reached 1,982. A typical number of bookings recorded per day is around 682, the number of bookings made on the website two days ago.
FlightScanner features fares from bmibaby, Ryanair, buzz, easyJet, Go, MyTravelLite, Sterling, and Virgin Express. Mr da Re said FlightScanner was talking to BA about getting it’s Trade Fare Explorer on the website, and was talking to no-frills carriers in Germany.
Dolphin does not charge airlines to have fares on the website, but Mr da Re did not rule it out for the future. He said: “Charging airlines has worked well for other businesses, but we have no plan to charge them at the moment.”
He added: “We have no intention of making this available to the consumer because they would research the flight with us, then book direct with the airline. It wouldn’t get us anything other than traffic”.
