Former Thomas Cook/Co op director advises on risk
A former director of the Thomas Cook/Co-op Joint Venture has advised agents to carry out a ‘mini audit’ to see what risks threaten their business.
Ken Smith, who left as commercial and marketing director of the Joint Venture in April last year, has set up a consultancy to advise travel firms on improvements to staffing, systems and structures.
Previously a Midlands Co-op chief, Smith has set up Ken Smith Management Consultancy after a long history in retail.
He said: "Risk is a key area to all businesses. It is about mitigating exposure by ensuring processes and practices are offering the best returns.
"This could be anything from marketing plans going the wrong way, system capabilities being exposed to fraud or changes to staffing and structures."
"I am offering advice and solutions on cost control, structures and investments – like a mini audit.
"I still have a real passion for the industry."
Smith was general manager of Midlands Co-operative Society from January 2007 to October 2011, with responsibility for high street agents, the web, homeworkers as well as tour operating and business travel.
