France strikes set to disrupt Paris, Marseilles flights
Major flight disruption is expected across France today as some aviation workers down tools.
It is part of the first nationwide strike action since the pension protests earlier this year.
Around 40% of scheduled flights at Paris Orly Airport are expected to be grounded.
About 20% in Marseille will be cancelled and 15% at Beavais Airport near Paris.
Rail operator SNCF expects high-speed TGV trains to operate normally but unions have called on staff at regional stations to strike.
The strike over pay involves several major unions in different sectors including transport, education and healthcare.
Ryanair again called on the EU Commission to take action to protect overflights in French airspace during the France strikes.
In 2023 so far, there has been 64 days of ATC strikes.
“It is disgraceful to think that French ATC are striking again. Despite Ryanair’s repeated calls, they still have not taken any action to protect EU passengers,” the airline said.
“As a result, even more passengers will have their flights cancelled at short notice due to the French ATC strike.”
The France strikes could impact travel for rugby fans travelling to World Cup games although the strike action is expected to be over by early Saturday.
