Frontier ditching flight change fees
As the US Administration cracks down on airline fee transparency, low cost carrier Frontier Airlines will scrap change fees.
It will stop charging customers to change their flights.
The move is part of a revamp of its pricing policies.
Like Spirit Airlines, Frontier has built its brand on ultra-low basic fares but charged fees for almost everything else, from seat assignments to baggage.
Frontier currently charges up to $99 to change a flight.
Frontier says it will now offer fares that include some of the add-ons it used to charge for separately.
These include early boarding.
Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said a new economy bundled fare option includes carry-on bags and seat assignments for $30 more than the bare bones fare.
There will also be a ‘premium’ leisure bundle that offers these plus early boarding at $50 more.
Additionally, a ‘business’ bundle costs $100 more for two checked bags and a front of cabin seat with more space.
The U.S. Department of Transportation released a final rule requiring airlines to display the true cost of flying, including all extra fees, upfront.
The major airlines did away with change fees during the Covid pandemic.
A fee to change a flight is ‘a top complaint’ of customers, Biffle said.
