Fun and free winter activities in Niagara Falls
A bustling city with many free activities and attractions, Niagara Falls USA is the most perfect winter destination.
The frosty temperatures create a stunning winter wonderland as the iconic Falls become an icy splendor.
Meanwhile there are a number of other fun things to do, see and explore.
From life-sized gingerbread masterpieces to Christmas markets and outdoor pursuits, experience the festive atmosphere of Niagara and around.
The falls from day to night
As the temperature drops, the mist and spray from the Falls forms icy layers over the rushing water, giving it a distinctive ‘Frozen Falls essence’. In the evening, admire the Falls all over again during the free nightly illumination as it transforms into vibrant hues, from emerald green and hot pink to the colors of the American flag.
A snowy outdoor adventure
For those seeking outdoor activities, there are an array of exciting options. Discover new landscapes on a snowshoe adventure or visit the Cave of Winds Pavilion within Niagara Falls State Park. Visitors receive complimentary snowshoe hire and no experience is necessary. Explore the 400 acres of Niagara Falls State Park with a brisk hike. Visitors can also try ice skating at Cornerstone Ice Arena in nearby Lockport.
Fun & free Christmas activities
Jingle Falls USA returns to Old Falls Street in November for three days. Held from the 24 -26 November, families can enjoy a variety of free or cheap activities. This includes LiveNF Makers Market, where visitors can browse 75 local artisan stalls, and enjoy live music and art. The life-sized Gingerbread Wonderland is perhaps the most spectacular Christmas offering, open Saturdays and Sundays from 25 November until 17 December at Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. It is built each year for guests to walk around and enjoy for free, along with several family-friendly activities including cookie decorating, festive crafts and live entertainment.
