Garuda flight makes emergency landing during engine fire
A Garuda Indonesia flight had to make an emergency landing shortly after take-off due to an engine fire.
Flames were seen coming from the engine seconds after it took off at Makassar’s Sultan Hasanudin Airport.
The Boeing 747 was taking over 400 Hajj pilgrims to Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
The flight immediately turned around and landed safely.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to all Hajj pilgrims on this flight and also to the Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry as the Hajj organiser,” Garuda President Director Irfan Setiaputra, said.
“After the discovery of a spark in one of the engines, the aircraft engine has to undergo a thorough check.”
