GBTA Africa holds symposium on traveler tracking and safety
The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) yesterday launched its first event, the GBTA Africa Energy & Resources Travel Symposium, an educational program focusing on duty of care and traveler tracking in the region.
GBTA launched the event as part of its increased investment in Africa, where it launched its first chapter in September, 2012.
GBTA has been "overwhelmed with interest from buyers and suppliers," it said in a press release, and expects the event to sell out.
"Duty of care" is a legal term defined on Wikipedia as the responsibility "to take reasonable measures to prevent harm to others."
Jason Krause, managing director of International SOS, will speak on the considerations that oil, gas, and marine companies need to take into account when sending employees on assignments in Africa.
GBTA Africa also will release a white paper for the oil, gas, and marine industry discussing duty of care issues for the transient workforce and the complex logistics involved in moving work crews within the continent.
The event will be held at the Cape Royale Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 3-4.
GBTA Africa has 100 members, almost all in South Africa, but plans to grow across other African regions in the next 18 months, GBTA spokesperson Meghan Henning told TravelMole.
"GBTA is very excited to be in this area and we are pleased with the reaction we have had and what we have heard from members," she said.
