German green travel map unveiled
New map gives sustainability visibility
The new new Green Travel Map Germany makes tourist attractions and products visible that demonstrably contribute to an environmentally friendly and socially compatible tourism in destination areas.
Each feature of the map is endorsed by certificates, labels and other sustainable tourism awards.
The map has been created as a planning service for regional marketing organizations and destinations in Germany, to be used by Germany Travel, the regional tourism marketing organizations and by tour operators and booking platforms as reference for the development of their products and services and marketing.
The map is being continually expanded.
The map highlights:
- What green travel components are on offer in any specific area
- How the contribution they are making to sustainable development is substantiated
Say the map creators: "Sustainable tourism, with its numerous facets – including its contribution to the conservation of biological diversity – needs to be recognizable as such in the international marketplace."
This is the reason why ECOTRANS – the European network of experts for sustainable tourism development – has compiled a national map, which will be continuously expanded.
The ‘Grüne Reisekarte Deutschland’ or ‘Green Travel Map of Germany’ is providing Germany’s destinations and regional marketing organizations with an important planning and decision-making tool to assist them when putting together and expanding their sustainable tourism offers.
Say Ecotrans: "Destination managers, tour operators, professionals and travel enthusiasts are able to see at a glance the tourism product components that contribute demonstrably to the development of sustainable tourism in Germany."
"Proof is provided by the various certificates, labels and prizes they have been awarded for achieving a high level of environmental, ecological and social sustainability, and which are listed on the DestiNet.eu sustainable tourism portal."
"Currently worldwide there are more than 200 national and international labels and awards which attest to the fact that a hotel or restaurant has sustainability credentials via the use of words like ‘bio’, ‘eco’ or ‘fair’. It’s time to make them better known to the businesses in the destinations and to let the destination managers show their "better choice" to their marketing partners."
