Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing unicorn Grab has doubled down on its recent strategic partnership with London-based global mobility marketplace Splyt Technologies.

Grab has invested in Splyt’s $8 million Series A funding as the firms deepen their business relationship.

Grab and Splyt partnered to enable riders to book Grab in eight Southeast Asian countries via third-party apps like Ctrip and AliPay.

Grab can book rides in markets beyond the ASEAN region within the Grab app using Splyt’s network of partner operators.

"This partnership will unlock a world of options for the increasingly well-travelled Southeast Asian, letting them roam easily across the world through an app they already know and trust. We’re excited to enable more international travellers to explore the beauty and diversity of Southeast Asia," said Grab chief technology officer for transport Mark Porter.

The funding gives Porter a seat of the board of Splyt.

Established three years ago, Splyt says it is the first and largest B2B mobility marketplace, which has a potential market reach of 1.5 billion users in over 50 countries.

"This will take both companies further in our journeys to solve existing pain points for travellers," said Splyt CEO Philipp Mintchin.

The funds will bankroll Splyt’s expansion into new markets and for further technology development.
