Great Yarmouth rejected the rest and kept the best
Almost 200 hundred years ago the English novelist, pamphleteer, and journalist, author of Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe described Great Yarmouth as having the “finest quay in all England with houses looking like little palaces”. Today little has changed at the quayside but the town itself has grown to be one of Europe’s leading coastal resorts with hundred of thousands of visitors arriving each year to sample the welcome provided by the local hotels and parks, the local food and drink and of course the entertainment provided throughout the year. It is in short a complete British seaside resort in the finest tradition. Throughout this early part of the 21st century massive investment has been made to ensure that Yarmouth remains at the top of the league as a seaside town. Many new features have been added to the famous seafront such as the Atlantis Tower Complex and events such as the Maritime Festival have been given added marketing boosts. Britannia Pier continues to attract the very top acts and now after much investigation and research the local tourism authority have settled on a technology partner to ensure that all the information about the changing face of Yarmouth is easy to access and attractive to look at. Marketing Manager of the Greater Yarmouth Tourism Authority Feargus Mack has led the project from start to finish.’ In the summer of 2003 we issued a tender document to all of the leading suppliers of Destination Management Systems in the UK. All of the respondents were given an opportunity to present their case in front of a panel of wide ranging interests here in Yarmouth. Without exception the conclusion everybody came too was that OmniTourism far and way offered us the best opportunity to market and sell the Greater Yarmouth area effectively and efficiently. We were impressed not only by the software itself but also by the levels of support they were giving to other clients, the wide ranging distribution opportunities and the fact that they were able to provide us with a sustainable solution. We have now embarked on a complete redesign of our web site and OmniTourism are working closely with our local web house – Lindon Parriss. The solution will provide everything we have asked for including on-line bookings, web generation, content management and of course links through to distribution channels such as VisitNorfolk’. Director of OmniTourism Graham McKenzie commented ‘In each successful project you can always identify a system champion. Greater Yarmouth has that in Feargus. Combine this with our destination toolsets and you have the ingredients for success. There can be little doubt that Greater Yarmouth have taken the whole business of tourism marketing and service very seriously and it pleases us no end that they chose us ahead of the competition.’ Media contacts: – OmniTourism – Sue Johnson 01403865800 [email protected] Great Yarmouth – Feargus Mack 01493 846340 [email protected]
