The families of four victims who died in an Alaska sightseeing plane crash are suing Holland America Line.

They allege negligence by the cruise line for not warning of the dangers.

The floatplane crashed during a flight to Misty Fjords National Monument a year ago.

The crash killed all five passengers and the pilot.

HAL was named a defendant along with operator Southeast Aviation and the estate of pilot Rolf Lanzendorfer.

“We hope that it will improve the safety of the cruise industry,” said attorney Ranse Partin, who representing families of three victims.

The lawsuit says they booked the float plane trip through a third-party travel agency.

The suit says the pilot was reckless by flying in unsafe conditions.

The NTSB accident report said clouds were as low as 600 feet.

“They ought to be warning passengers, ‘maybe you should consider not doing these flights,” Partin added.

“The tight timeframe that these flights are on enhance the danger because the pilots know they have to get the passengers quickly back to the port so they can make the boat.”

It is requesting a jury trial and unspecified damages.
