Hong Kong Airlines delays salaries, ends long haul network

Months of anti-government protests in Hong Kong have taken a heavy toll on troubled Hong Kong Airlines.
Already in financial jeopardy before the protests began, the airline is now delaying salaries to about half its workforce.
It will also effectively end long haul flights.
The last flight to Vancouver will be on 10 February 2020. The airline has already announced the suspension of Los Angeles flights as well as Ho Chi Minh City and Tianjin.
Only Hong Kong Airlines’ overseas workers and cabin crew members will be paid on time while the remainder will be paid a week later.
The airline said revenue plunged in November
Hong Kong’s Air Transport Licensing Authority has been concerned over the airline’s plight for several months and could revoke its operating license.
Last month the ATLA said its ‘financial situation has shown no sign of improvement’ and ‘appropriate action’ was being mulled.
Hong Kong Airlines is backed by debt-ridden Chinese conglomerate HNA Group which has been actively trying to sell its stake for the past couple of years.
