Hong Kong Lunar New Year parade activities announced
Hong Kong’s eagerly awaited Lunar New Year parade is expected to attract about 100,000 revellers.
The parade will be held on January 29 in the evening, which is the first day of the Year of the Snake.
Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and sponsored by Cathay Pacific, a host of performers have been announced.
It will feature floats and performing groups from 14 countries.
“Many floats will act as Hong Kong tourism ambassadors, featuring authentic elements of the city, such as the giant pandas. They will make an impressive appearance together with local famous food, such as milk tea,” said Tourism Board chairman Pang Yiu-kai.
K-pop girl group Kep1er and Thai boy band LYKN will perform at the parade.
Cathay Pacific chief executive officer Ronald Lam said the airline will do its bit to promote the event and other major events in Hong Kong.
“This parade is a platform for international cultural exchange. We have groups from different countries, performing for local people and tourists, allowing everyone to experience the festive atmosphere,” Lam said.
The parade kicks off at 8pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, proceeding along Canton Road, Haiphong Road and Nathan Road.
Tickets will be on sale starting on January 11.
The parade will kick off a series of festive celebrations including a fireworks display on January 30 and sports events.
