Honolulu Airport adopts SITA Smart Path biometric screening
Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) is the latest US airport to adopt SITA’s biometric-enabled SITA Smart Path.
The system supports U.S. Customs and Border Protection in handling the mandated biometric passenger screening on exit from the US.
SITA has installed 54 face pods across Terminals 1 and 2 which are available to all international passengers.
The tech provides travelers with a touchless process which streamlines international departures.
If a traveler cannot be matched to a photo on record or chooses to opt out, they can go through a traditional inspection process.
SITA’s solution enables a more efficient screening process for departing international travellers.
To use SITA’s Smart Path solution powered by NEC, a passenger steps up to a camera at the boarding gate to verify their identity and can board in seconds.
SITA Smart Path has over 600 biometric touchpoints at US airports including Miami, Orlando, and San Francisco
SITA Smart Path has a proven 99.5% match rate.
Travelers’ identities are confirmed by comparing a live photo to images already on file, such as passport and visa photos.
This takes just seconds.
Edwin Sniffen, Director of the Hawaii Department of Transportation, said: “We are thrilled to announce our adoption of the U.S. Exit Solution in partnership with SITA.”
“This solution will help make the experience fast and efficient for our customers.”
Matthys Serfontein, SITA President for the Americas, said: “We are confident that SITA’s US Exit will greatly enhance the passenger experience at HNL.”
Honolulu is the largest airport in Hawaii, serving 21 airlines and over 18 million departing passengers annually.
