Founder of Contiki Travel John Anderson has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Developed in the 1960s, the bus travel tours cater to 18 to 35-year-olds and are a tradition among young travellers.

The tours run in Europe, Egypt, North America, Australia, Asia and Russia as well as New Zealand.

World Travel Market chair Fiona Jeffery was awarded an OBE in the UK’s New Year Honours list in recognition of her services to the travel and tourism industry.

In 1998 Jeffery founded Just a Drop water aid charity as a way to encourage travel and tourism companies to give back to the world by helping reduce child mortality caused by unsafe water.

Jeffery also helped to launch the Arabian Travel Market in 1992.
