Hurtigruten adds new UK departures for 2022

Tuesday, 05 Mar, 2021 0

Expedition cruise brand Hurtigruten is launching a series of new itineraries to explore the nature and history of the British Isles and Iceland.

It features departures from Liverpool and Portsmouth aboard hybrid powered ship, the MS Fridtjof Nansen. From 7 May 2022, the three new sailings will join Dover and Glasgow scheduled departures in offering the chance to experience expedition sailings closer to home

Anthony Daniels, General Manager UK and EMEA at Hurtigruten, said: "We are delighted to increase our support for the UK cruise industry with the introduction of new expedition cruises departing from Liverpool and Portsmouth."

MS Fridtjof Nansen now joins MS Maud and MS Spitsbergen, as Hurtigruten ships homeporting in Dover and Glasgow respectively, in 2021, 2022 and 2023. We have seen very encouraging booking trends since the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown was released last week."

From Portsmouth to Reykjavík, the three itineraries offer guests the opportunity to experience areas of natural beauty, wildlife, and historic sites.

It includes ‘Historic Ports of the English Channel and Irish Sea,’ a four-day itinerary taking passengers from Portsmouth to the docks of Liverpool. The itinerary includes the Cornish fishing village of Fowey where pirates once smuggled rum and gold and Waterford in Ireland found by the Vikings in the 9th century.

Prices start from £590pp.

‘Ancient Ties and Natural Wonders’ takes guests on a 15-day full circumnavigation voyage departing from Liverpool and taking in Iceland and the Scottish Isles.

A half circumnavigation of the Land of Ice and Fire is a nine-day journey visiting  2,000-year-old Carloway Broch, Scotland’s best-preserved fort, Seyðisfjörður; and Eyjafjörður fjord with the chance to see whales.

Hosting around 500 guests, MS Fridtjof Nansen is a hybrid-powered expedition cruise ship – the second ship of its kind from Hurtigruten and specifically designed for expedition cruising.

It has environmentally sustainable hybrid propulsion as well as other green technology that reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20%.
