India allows airline to increase capacity to 80 per cent

Sunday, 6 December 20203 min read

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has permitted airlines to increase seat capacity to 80% of pre-Covid levels.

It marks a slight increase on the 70% that was currently in place.

The change takes effect immediately.

India restarted domestic flights at only 25% of previous capacity in late May after a months-long lockdown.

Since then it has gradually upped the maximum capacity level in several phases.

It was raised from 60 to 70% only last month.

The ministry said it will keep the lower and upper limits on domestic airfares for at least another three months.

It was brought in when flights resumed to ensure no price gouging.

Indian airlines are continuing with the ‘Vande Bharat’ repatriation flights overseas and selected flights allowed under bilateral air bubble agreements with various countries including the UAE and the UK.
