India's competition regulator rejects claim of airline price fixing

India’s Competition Commission has thrown out a complaint of price collusion between several domestic airlines.

An investigation was ordered into alleged cartelization among Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir and Air India dating back several years.

The CCI assessed pricing data and cost structures on four major routes from April 2012 to March 2014 and found no charges to answer.

There was no parallel conduct arising from direct communication between the airlines.

It found that net prices were similar but there was no evidence of price collusion between the airlines.

"In view of the analysis done between price and capacity, and in the absence of any evidence suggestive of meeting of minds, the investigation could not find any contravention," the CCI said.

"There is no evidence on record of an established cartel amongst airlines."
