Indonesia to sue UK for share of Airbus bribery fine
Indonesia said it will sue the UK’s anti-corruption agency for a share of the billion-dollar penalty imposed on Airbus.
It is seeking part of the Airbus bribery settlement the UK’s Serious Fraud Office received.
In 2020 Airbus was fined $4 billion in total by France, UK and the US with the UK getting over $1 billion.
Airbus was found guilty of bribery in five countries, including Indonesia.
Minister Yasonna Laoly told Reuters: “We are one of the victim countries, we just seek fairness.”
Indonesia provided evidence of bribery during the investigation.
A former CEO of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia was jailed for corruption involving Airbus aircraft.
Emirsyah Satar accepted bribes for new aircraft orders.
