Int’l Pow Wow Delegates Reach-Out to Seriously Ill Kids
More than 5,000 international travel industry professionals and travel media are in Orlando this week to attend the Travel Industry Association of America’s (TIA) International Pow Wow 2006 at the Orange County Convention Center. They are in town to book travel to the United States from around the world which will contribute billions of dollars in future revenue for our area. But, they are also leaving behind a contribution of a different sort.
The Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc., on behalf of the Pow Wow delegates, donated $15,000 to Give Kids The World program, in lieu of a welcome gift to each delegate. The donation provides magical Orlando vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses from around the world. 75,000 children they have hosted are children from 50 countries.
International Pow Wow is the travel industry’s premier international marketplace and is the largest generator of Visit USA travel. More than 1,000 U. S. travel organizations from the USA, representing all industry category components, and close to 1,500 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries are participating in this year’s event. While in Orlando, they will conduct business negotiations that result in the generation of over $3.5 billion in future Visit USA travel. More than 200 local Orlando residents are acting as local ambassadors to welcome the visiting delegates.
