Japan city slammed for ‘inappropriate’ use of sex doll to promote tourism
Local government officials in Japan were slammed by auditors for using an expensive adult sex doll in a display to promote local tourism.
It relates to a display at Tokushima Awaodori Airport which was designed to promote the local area’s traditional indigo-dyeing artwork.
The city of Tokushima spent over $2,800 (¥400,000 ) in public funds on the sex doll used in the display.
Originally mannequins were used in the exhibition.
The mannequins were later replaced by the sex doll which was used to ‘model’ an indigo-dyed kimono as part of the display.
The audit report said this was ‘grossly inappropriate’ and the doll was ‘extremely expensive.’
It said it was a misuse of public funds and there have been calls for action against officials who approved it.
An unnamed official replaced the mannequins with the sex doll as it would be a bigger ‘crowd pleaser’ and attract more interest.
The audit has just been released even through the incident happened in 2017.
“While this is a case from before my tenure as governor, I will take the audit results seriously and handle them in a strict manner,” the prefecture’s governor, Masazumi Gotoda, said.
