Japan receives first international cruise ship for three years
Japan tourism officials welcomed the first international cruise ship call for three years.
The MS Amadea ship docked at Shizuoka with 500 mostly German guests.
Health officials boarded the ship to conduct health checks before passengers came ashore
Japan tourism ministry officials expect about 1,200 ship calls this year.
That is about a third down on 2019 levels.
International cruise tourists spent about $591 million in 2019, the tourism ministry said.
Japan halted international cruises after the Diamond Princess Covid-19 outbreak in February 2020.
