Jersey travel group taken over
Isle of Man-based Online Regional Travel Group has clinched the takeover of a Jersey travel group that includes established brands such as Troys and Bellingham Travel.
This is the second acquisition in eight months following the purchase of Guernsey-based travel group Wayfarers World Travel last June.
ORTG now claims to be the leading travel provider in the three main offshore Islands in the British Isles, with annual sales of £40 million and 61 staff employed in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
The group specialises in corporate, high quality leisure and online travel.
CEO Brian Kelly said he believed this is the first time an Independent travel group has operated in all three Islands.
The company said it plans to grow and expand the Jersey business through a number of corporate, online and direct holiday flight opportunities.
The latest acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, is in line with a strategy to develop a niche travel business specialising in corporate, high quality leisure and a range of dynamic regional online travel portals.
Forty per cent of ORTG’s annual sales are transacted online through the websites http://www.justtheflight.co.uk/,
http://www.manxflights.com/ ,
http://www.flybelfast.co.uk/.
With further acquisitions in the pipeline, ORTG is “well positioned†for continued growth and profitability through increased margins, Kelly said.
The group has experienced strong sales since the start of the year, with online flight sales expected to hit 40,000 in 2008.
“We are on target to hit our budget of 25% growth in the current financial year,†said Kelly.
He described the names of Troys and Bellinghams as being part of Jersey travel history, having been trading on the island for more than 50 years.
Being able to service the business community that not only travels between Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man but globally, through a single corporate account while having the convenience of using a local business travel expert in each jurisdiction, will put the group in a “unique position,†Kelly claimed.
