Jet2 takes one of Danny Dyer’s ‘Deadliest Men’ to court
Jet2holidays is going to court to prevent amateur boxer and film star Bradley Welsh from using its logo on leaflets that accuse the company of abandoning families and employing staff who lie.
Welsh, who played a gangland boss in the hit film T2 Trainspotting, and appeared as one of Danny Dyer’s ‘Deadliest Men’ in 2009, distributed thousands of the leaflets around Edinburgh after his luggage was lost following a Jet2 flight.
Jet2 is now seeking an interdict to prevent Welsh from using its logo on the leaflets. The case has been adjourned by the Scottish Court of Session until later this month
Welsh, a former British amateur lightweight champion, intends to represent himself at the hearing.
The 43-year-old, who owns a boxing gym in Edinburgh, has been complaining about Jet2 since February, when he told the Daily Mail his Valentine’s Day had been ruined because he had lost his suitcase containing Viagra, clean underwear and a gift for his fiance at Lanzarote airport.
Claiming Jet2holidays refused to accept liability for another passenger apparently walking off with his case, Welsh printed 15,000 leaflets which said: "Package holidays you CAN’T trust". The leaflets go on to allege that: "Jet2 abandon families, Jet2 lose your luggage, Jet2 employees lie to you, Jet2 have no care for families." It added: "Edinburgh beware."
Welsh argues that Jet2 is taking no responsibility for his any baggage that is not in the hold, and says 15 people have contacted him with similar stories since he went public last month.
Jet2 said: "We have made every effort to assist Mr Welsh and have made it clear that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are not liable for the accidental removal of hand luggage from the flight in question by another passenger.
"Despite this, Mr Welsh has continued to make a number of defamatory statements and threats and as a result we have now instigated formal legal proceedings.
"With these legal proceedings ongoing, we are unable to comment any further at this time."
