JetBlue secures London Heathrow slots

Friday, 29 Mar, 2021 0

JetBlue has finally secured coveted slots at London Heathrow, a key requirement in its bid to disrupt the transatlantic market.

It received 270 slots for summer from the UK slot coordinator Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) and plans to serve London from the US east coast.

It will start with an average 14 slots a week.

It plans to deploy its new fleet of Airbus A321LRs which will have its newly redesigned MINT premium service.

The New York based airline hasn’t given any further details but will likely fly most services out of New York JFK, and perhaps some from Boston at a later time.

A highly-anticipated transatlantic entry by JetBlue has stirred up lots of interest in recent months and Gobaldata expects it to be a success.

Gobaldata says nearly half of corporate travel budgets will be much reduced over the next year, and JetBlue’s MINT business service may have an edge due to is significantly cheaper price.

"Corporate travellers are likely to see JetBlue as a viable, lower-cost alternative going forward. Lower prices will see the airline attract corporate travelers working for companies with depleted budgets," said Gus Gardner, Travel and Tourism Analyst at GlobalData.
