Jetstar first Australian carrier to partner with Afterpay
In an industry first in Australia, budget carrier Jetstar is introducing a ‘book now pay later’ ecommerce model thanks to a tie-up with payments platform Afterpay.
The Afterpay credit option is available for Australians booking domestic flights at least two months in advance.
It is eligible for bookings from A$200 to A$1000.
Jetstar said it may extend the service to international flight bookings if it proves a success.
"Our mission at Jetstar is to offer low fares to enable more people to fly to more places, more often. Partnering with Afterpay gives our customers the option to lock in low fares at today’s prices and pay over time, even during our sales," said Jetstar Group chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka.
"Many of Jetstar’s customers already use Afterpay to purchase items at various retailers and are familiar with the flexibility of paying over time."
The fare is locked in once a booking is confirmed and payments can be made in regular instalments every two weeks.
There is a one-time $A10 service fee per transaction.
