Kiwis to get visa-free travel to China

Sunday, 16 Jun, 2024 0

China is set to offer visa free travel for New Zealanders.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang said New Zealand tourists will soon be able to travel to China without a visa, likely for up to 15 days.

It is a unilateral decision to boost inbound tourism.

Li said he hopes the NZ government will follow suit and relax visa rules for Chinese travelers.

Li announced it during a three-day trade visit at the weekend.

“China is willing to further strengthen the bonds of cooperation with New Zealand and enhance people-to-people exchanges,” he said.

In the opposite direction, China is New Zealand’s second largest source market for tourism after Australia but is still down on pre-Covid levels.

However, air capacity between the countries has reached 2019 levels.
