Korean Air plane overshoots runway
All 173 people on board a Korean Air flight escaped safely after a terrifying incident at Mactan-Cebu Airport in the Philippines.
The front underbelly of the Airbus A330 was badly damaged after the plane overshot the runway in bad weather.
“All passengers are safe and were attended by ground personnel,” the Philippine aviation authority said.
The Korean Air plane remained stuck on a grass verge.
Airport operations had to be halted causing multiple flight cancellations.
It was the third attempt to land in bad weather.
All passengers evacuated on the plane’s escape slides.
“I would like to extend my sincere regrets. A thorough investigation will be performed together with the local aviation authorities to determine the cause,” Korean Air president Keehong Woo said
Mactan-Cebu International Airport is one of the country’s busiest air hubs.
