Lastminute pushes domestic packages
A combination of the recession and swine flu means 27% more Brits will holiday in the UK this year, according to research by Lastminute.com.
The online retailer claims it has seen a 10% rise in domestic booking in the last year and, in response, has launched a range of ‘Best of British’ staycation packages.
According to its poll of 2,127 people, only one in 10 has holidayed in the UK in the past decade and 10% of 18-24 year olds couldn’t name a single attraction within an hour of their home.
Among those aged 55 and over, one in four had a comprehensive knowledge of their area.
Two thirds (66%) have holidayed in less than five cities across the whole of the UK, out of a potential 66.
The top 10 Lastminute destinations for UK breaks are: 1. Saint Helier (Jersey), 2. Suffolk, 3. Cambridge, 4. Dorset, 5. Oxford, 6. Stoke-on-Trent, 7. London, 8. Southampton, 9. Bath and 10. York
