Leading Caribbean luxury boutique resort preserves the Environment
Located at the most beautiful white beach and turquoise blue sea in Aruba, the Manchebo Beach Resort & Spa has been a leader in sustainability and responsible tourism for years. This luxury boutique resort was the first Green Globe member to earn prestigious Gold Status in January 2008.
"Manchebo Beach Resort embodies all the characteristics of Caribbean hospitality and eco-consciousness," said Denaye Hinds, Director of Sustainability, and Lead Auditor for the Manchebo Beach Resort. "This property continuously improves their efforts to conserving the environment. With a sincere feeling of responsibility and community engagement, the resort staff provides incredible service and a firm commitment to preserve a safe and healthy environment for the island of Aruba, its people and visiting guests. Working with the Manchebo team has always been a joy, and I can understand why guests like to come back here."
Numerous green initiatives are in place at the Manchebo Beach Resort, and an eco-action plan tracks energy, water, and gas consumption. In addition, the resort conducts various projects on renewable energy sources. All guest room doors are insulated by weather strips and the patio sliding doors are tinted with double glass to maximize the air conditioners’ efficiency. Low watt warm fluorescent light bulbs are installed in all light fixtures throughout the property. Environmental and responsible purchasing, take back policies with suppliers, make it a point to buy eco-friendly products and support environmentally-friendly businesses.
"The world has a fixed amount of natural resources, and as the population grows our resources are pushed to its very limits. We must preserve the environment so that our children and future generations can benefit from it, and enjoy the same life we have," commented Lidia Halley, Environmental Coordinator at the resort.
The Manchebo Beach Resort is deeply rooted in community and social endeavors throughout Aruba. Local causes and charitable organizations are supported through hosting events, participation in community programs, sponsorships, donations, and many hours of volunteer time from the entire Manchebo team.
One of the projects, the Manchebo team is very passionate about, is devoted to turtle conservation. "We work alongside Turtugaruba, a volunteer foundation for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitat in the Wider Caribbean, especially around Aruba. Turtugaruba is a proud member of the Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network (WIDECAST)," said Lidia Halley.
WIDECAST’s goal is to realize a future where all inhabitants of the Wider Caribbean Region, human and sea turtle alike, can live together in balance. Turtles nest during the spring nesting season along the shores of Manchebo / Eagle Beach (egg hatching process takes approximately 60 days). During the summer hatching season (March – September), various members of the foundation stand guard for hours and often days to protect hatchlings and to guide them to the sea.
"The Manchebo associates are enthusiastic about joining Turtugaruba’s efforts, and like to share the information with family and friends. When our community joins together to understand the threats to Aruba’s turtles, people will stop driving quads and cars on the beaches and prevent the interruption of the egg laying and egg hatching process. We feel indebted to help patrol and keep watch," added Ms. Halley.
Guests are invited to participate in all local environmental and community-related activities during their stay.
