Litchfield voted Australia’s number one

The Northern Territory’s Litchfield National Park has been voted Australia’s number one must-see undiscovered gem, beating a field of more than 800 nominations nation wide, with Northern Territory Minister for Tourism, Paul Henderson, welcoming the result of the Australian Traveller magazine survey, “100 great things to do in Australia you’ve never heard of”.

He added, “This fantastic result just confirms what we already know as locals – that Litchfield is a real Top End gem”, adding, “Kakadu naturally receives more attention as it is top of the mind when considering nature and culture icons, however Litchfield offers travellers a nature-based experience in the outer surrounds of Darwin.”

“It is a closer attraction for those people wanting shorter stay trips and is promoted as part of the Destination Marketing approach along with Darwin and Surrounds.”

“It’s great to see that word is starting to spread and Litchfield is being recognised for its true worth.”

“With an average of 242,000 visitors per year, which is on par with Kakadu’s visitor numbers, we don’t expect Litchfield to appear on a ‘hidden gem’ list for much longer.”

“The Northern Territory had 11 destinations in the top 100 list, including Ormiston Gorge (number 5), the Cutta Cutta Caves (number 38), Chambers Pillar (number 46) and Darwin’s Beer Can Regatta (number 51),” Mr Henderson said.
