Madinah Moevenpick Hotel Continues Sustainability Strategies

Monday, 23 Sep, 2016 0

Located in the modern city of Madinah in Saudi Arabia, Madinah Mövenpick Hotel is perfectly situated for pilgrims visiting this holy destination. The Al Rawda Al Sharifa and Al Baqie are all within a few minutes from the hotel. Immaculately appointed rooms and suites have views of the city and the hotel’s restaurants and cafe offer guests a variety of dining choices.

Green Globe congratulates Madinah Mövenpick Hotel on its recent certification for the sixth year and its compliance score of 77%.

Khader Dakak, General Manager at the hotel said, "We are proud to achieve Green Globe certification again. I would like to thank all our team members for their commitment towards environmental conservation and social responsibility."

Madinah Mövenpick Hotel conducts staff training in different areas of sustainability to raise awareness. The hotel participates in Earth Hour and World Environment Day celebrations each year and encourages people through social media campaigns to take positive environmental action in protecting nature and planet Earth. In addition, the hotel has its own Energy Management Committee that actively focuses on reducing power consumption by implementing an energy savings plan.

Madinah Mövenpick Hotel uses the Hotel Optimiser management system, designed by Green Globe’s preferred Middle East Partner, FARNEK, to record and monitor all activities in energy and water consumption. To conserve energy, a Building Management System (BMS) regulates temperatures in various sections of the property. Energy-efficient facility equipment and guest room appliances have also been installed. Furthermore, motion sensors and timers are utilised at the property with 70% of corridor lighting controlled by sensors. Lights in guest rooms, back of house areas, offices, meeting rooms and restaurants continue to be replaced with LED lights.

Water is routinely monitored to ensure reduction targets are met. Low-flow aerators are fitted on taps in guest rooms and public areas.

The hotel has a systemic approach to sustainability. Twice every shift, staff members patrol designated areas and check for any faulty plumbing and water leakages, as part of the hotel’s Preventive Maintenance Programme. Refrigerator and freezer temperatures are monitored and measured six times a day (twice per shift). These measurements permit the hotel to collect valuable data regarding overall energy usage and maintain accurate records of any associated costs arising from repairs or replacement of equipment or parts.
