Man arrested disembarking Sydney cruise ship
A cruise ship passenger was arrested by police immediately after stepping into the International Passenger Terminal in Sydney following a South Pacific cruise.
A 48-year old man from Griffith, New South Wales, was detained for allegedly attempting to groom a child.
The NSW Police Sex Crimes Squad said he was under investigation after arranging a meeting with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl after returning from the cruise holiday.
Police began an investigation into him in June after online messages attempting to contact children were discovered
“The man allegedly sent inappropriate photos and videos to, who he believed, was a 14-year-old girl,” NSW police said.
He was taken to a downtown Sydney police station and formally charged with using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 years for sexual activity.
He was denied bail and made a first court appearance later the same day.
Based on Cruisemapper cruise ship tracking data, he was a passenger on the P&0 Cruises Australia ship Pacific Adventure which docked in Sydney after a 10-day Vanuatu cruise.
