More flight delays at London Gatwick

More flight delays at London Gatwick

Tuesday, 10 Sep, 2024 0

Air travel disruption has entered a third day with Tuesday flight operations off to a chaotic start at London Gatwick.

According to flight data from FlightRadar24, 95% of today’s first 100 flights scheduled to depart at Gatwick were delayed.

It says the average delay is nearly 40 minutes.

A mixture of bad weather and air traffic control staff shortages have impacted operations since Sunday.

That led to Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary to again call for the ousting of the air traffic control chief Martin Rolfe.

“This is the latest in a long line of cock-ups which has yet again disrupted multiple flights and thousands of passengers at Gatwick,” O’Leary said.

The current spate of disruption started with 100 flights cancelled on Sunday afternoon into the evening, affecting 16,000 travellers

Dozens of Gatwick flights were also cancelled on Monday.
