MyTravel update
Speculation continues about the sell-off of MyTravel’s specialist businesses, some possibly before the end of the year. But there is doubt over whether this will do MyTravel any favours.
Gartner G2 analyst, Mark Riseley told TravelMole: “The problem for MyTravel is that the market is moving beyond the “one size fits all” approach, and if they sell their specialist businesses they don’t have a vehicle for creating tailored experiences.
“They are being forced into selling these potentially going concerns, so they have to do things that are potentially bad for their future. May be they can turn it around and become the lowest cost provider in a declining market, but volume businesses in declining markets don’t tend to do well.
“Specialist businesses with tailored offerings are more in a position to generate margins because they have some value-add. In this kind of market the might be an idea to find new source markets or go after a specific customer”.
Speculation also continues in the financial press over whether MyTravel could be on the look out for some non-executive directors to join the board.
One space that could be filled is that of Kanzia Kantor, who has replaced finance director, David Jardine. The Sunday Times said MyTravel would be looking for some city heavyweights to boost its reputation.
