NCL to introduce studios to new ship
Norwegian Cruise Line’s biggest ship Norwegian Epic will feature the first studio accommodation on a cruise ship.
The 128 inside studios will be priced at the same level as standard inside cabins to appeal to budget travellers.
The 100sq ft studios are being designed to maximise space and feature a large, round window that looks out into the corridor, along with colour changing light effects that mirror different stages of the day.
Those booking studios on the ship will have key-card access to a two-storey private ‘living room’ area featuring a bar, TVs and room service.
The company also revealed detailed of an expanded ‘ship within a ship’ Courtyard area of 60 suites across two private decks at the top of the ship, including Courtyard Villas and penthouses.
The complex will include a private pool gym, sun deck and restaurant for indoor and outdoor dining, bar and nightclub.
Norwegian Epic, which is to sail in the Caribbean from Miami for summer 2010, will also have 39 spa cabins and suites and two decks of family accommodation with cabins designed for three or four passengers positioned close to the childrens’ facilities.
NCL opened the ship up to travel agents for group block bookings in advance of going on sale to the general public in mid-May.
Further details of NCL Epic are due to be unveiled on April 3.
The line’s CEO Kevin Sheehan said: “Since this is our largest and most innovative Freestyle Cruising vessel to date, we’ve taken a fresh approach to our stateroom mix, offering niche accommodations such as family and spa categories, along with creative, ground-breaking design such as The Studios with Living Room and our largest Courtyard Villa complex.”
The specialised accommodation complement the ship’s New Wave inside, balcony and deluxe balcony cabins announced last year with curved walls and lines.
NCL has maximised the living space with a bathroom with a separate shower stall, water closet and a modern vanity top sink.
All of Norwegian Epic’s outside cabins will have balconies. The vessel is due to be delivered to the company next May.
