New technologies key to managing travel costs?
Globalstar Travel Management, a company operating in more than 50 countries, has introduced three proprietary technologies it says will help corporations consolidate and better manage their business travel.
The three are FareStar, ProfileStar and DataStar, according to Martin P. Metzler, president and managing director. He said:
“These technologies form a major part of our integrated technology platform and offer travel managers unprecedented benefits.”
Technology of this type is the key to future savings for companies trying to lower travel costs, he added.
FareStar was developed as a proprietary tool for Globalstar by TelMe Farebase. It allows GLobalstar representatives to search fare databases in any country and on every GDS. Air fare savings of more than 30% are possible, according to Globalstar.
Profile Star allows Globalstar clients to enter and amend their travel profile 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the world. The system automatically updates any of the four major GDS’s, saving travel agents time re-keying information and improving accuracy. GlobalStar plans to use this tool to ensure seamless service across the globe regardless of the members’ GDS or other technology platforms.
DataStar is a packaged global data consolidation and on-line travel management reporting solution. It gives the Globalstar organization a centralized global travel data warehouse hosted at Hi-Mark’s data center.
Hi-Mark’s data consolidation technology will be deployed to securely collect, consolidate and normalize currency to provide comprehensive travel financial data from all of GlobalStar’s international locations.
The system has the flexibility to define and customize a travel manager’s own requirements, such as most frequented travel sectors or most used airlines and hotels. This consolidated global data will give the travel manager an edge in negotiating pricing based on economies of scale, according to Globalstar.
Another advantage is that at any one time the DataStar technology enables a company to track the exact location of their executives traveling on company business. This information is particularly meaningful in times of unexpected disasters or in high risk locations.
