New York state ready for solar eclipse crowds
With one week to go, the excitement is building across New York state.
NY state officials have revealed the extent of the preparations in place for next week’s solar eclipse event on April 8.
With ‘thousands and potentially millions’ expected to view the event, safety is the main focus.
“We have been planning for this for 18 months. We’ve created an inner-agency task force to ensure that we are promoting tourism, but keeping people safe,” said New York State Director of State Operations Kathryn Garcia.
A dedicated website launched with specific eclipse-related attractions and side events.
“This is going to be great for tourism, it’s going to bring in thousands, if not millions, of people to localities all along the trajectory,” NY Gov. Kathy Hochul said.
New York State Homeland Services expect major traffic jams on the roads.
“We absolutely expect significant grid lock. You will be in traffic for hours. It’s still an absolute worthwhile thing to do, but we want to make sure you stay patient.”
The solar eclipse last only a few minutes.
