The global Covid-19 pandemic has claimed another airline business.
Singapore-Thailand joint venture NokScoot is staying grounded for good.
The carrier’s board of directors opted to liquidate the airline, which will be put to a general meeting of shareholders within the next two weeks.
Rumours that the airline was likely to fold have been swirling for some time.
NokScoot is a joint venture between Thailand’s Nok Airlines and Singapore Airlines owned budget carrier Scoot.
The closure won’t affect either of these two airlines.
The joint venture was formed in 2014 and has consistently been operating at a loss, even before the pandemic.
"Unprecedented challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic have further exacerbated the situation. Consequently, the board of directors does not see a path to recovery and sustainable growth for the airline," the company said.
Based at Bangkok’s Dom Mueang Airport, NokScoot operated flights across Asia including China, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.
