North America seen as MICE value destination
Just about everyone promoting meetings and conventions stresses value but are they overlooking something obvious: North America? The latest to say so is Roger Stauffer, director of procurement and sales support at Global Cynergies.
He characterized the hotels in North America as offering “great value” during a seminar on destinations at EIBTM, according to Corporate & Incentive Travel. The site said he also added North America had these advantages:
—Average daily hotel rates lower than most of Eastern Europe.
—In 2010, three quarters of the North American hotel market had rates at less than €100 per room. Air travel costs are higher but “with that factored in, savings can be made overall.”
—North America also has a large number of new rooms in the pipeline.
He added that favorable exchange rates, and excellent accessibility, are also reasons why event planners should consider North America.
He also cited Houston, Canada and Mexico as top value destinations.
Stauffer pointed out that Canada is the only destination with a government program specifically designed to assist international event planners. The program includes tax rebates and support for covering site visit costs.
"They make it really easy to do business in Canada. They really want your business," he added.
