Not all passengers survive airplane trips

Monday, 12 December 20053 min read

Continental Airlines transports about 90,000 animals a year, but seven of them died in the first six months of this year.

Altogether, 21 pets died in the first six months in which airlines have been required to make such statistics available.

The second highest fatal airline was American, said the Washington Times.

Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Midwest Airlines and US Airways each reported a single death.

The safest airline so far for pets: Northwest, which reported no deaths.

So what does it all mean?

Animal advocates say results are too preliminary to make judgments.

“It’s really too early to say which airline is doing the best job and which airline is being negligent,” Kelly Connolly of the Humane Society of the US told wire services.
