NYC welcomes nearly 65 million travelers
New York City is again is the most-visited large city in the US as it reaches almost pre-pandemic visitation levels.
The New York City Tourism + Conventions report shows it welcomed 64.3 million travelers this year, representing 97% of its record-setting 2019 visitation numbers of nearly 67 million.
It was mainly domestic travelers who mostly stayed overnight although travel from Europe was up.
The UK remains the largest international source market at 1.1 million visitors in 2024.
Next was Canada, France, Brazil, Italy, China, Germany, Mexico, Australia and Spain.
There was a 4.1% increase in hotel rooms sold (34.1 million room nights across 700 hotels) through November 2024.
This remains 6% below 2019 levels but average daily rate is up.
“New York City’s tourism sector continues to thrive, reflecting its resilience and global appeal,” said Julie Coker, CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions.
“In 2024, we saw growth in both visitation and spending, reaching an estimated total direct spend of more than $51 billion across the city and state.”
