Olympic Holidays plugs Thomas Cook gaps

Olympic Holidays has added year-round holidays to the Spanish islands, winter holidays in Egypt and more Greece and Cyprus product to its programme.

CEO Clare Tobin said it has been able to fill holes in the market left by the collapse of Thomas Cook.

"The announcement that Thomas Cook was to cease trading last month bought about changing times in the travel industry for individuals, holidaymakers and travel companies, and we extend our thoughts to everyone affected," she said.

"Through good planning and a responsive team, working through deep insight, we have been able to plug several gaps in the market brought about through the demise of their business."

Billing itself as an ‘island specialist’ Olympic Holidays is adding more than 50 hotels to its Greece and Cyprus programme for winter and summer 2020.

It is also expanding its offering from 27 UK airports in Spain’s Balearic and Canary Islands.

Tobin said the Spanish islands were a ‘natural progression’.

For winter, Olympic will also be reintroducing Sharm El-Sheikh and has already introduced Hurghada, alongside Cyprus, the Canary Islands, Madeira and Malta.

"Egypt and the Balearics were used by Thomas Cook and include ever-popular resort hotels as well as smaller, more intimate properties so we can continue to appeal to families, groups and couples," added Tobin.
