Royal Caribbean has temporarily suspended all Blue Lagoon boats tours in Nassau, Bahamas following the death of an American tourist.

A 75-year-old American woman from Colorado died when a tour boat sink in choppy waters.

About 30 minutes into the trip the vessel began taking on water and partly capsized, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force said.

When water began to fill the ship’s main deck, passengers were ushered to the upper deck and told to put on life jackets.

The boat was operated by Blue Lagoon Island.

Due to the shallow water the boat did not fully submerge.

The trip is a popular excursion for cruise ship guests.

Royal Caribbean said it will cancel all Blue Lagoon tours until at least 23 November.

The cruise line has issued full refunds for existing bookings.

Video footage showed the vessel listing to one side with passengers clinging on.

Many were then forced to jump into the water.
