Online accommodation database overbrand fee abolished
Accommodation provider Apartments Abroad has waived a fee for agents to overbrand the company’s online database on their websites.
The service enables agents to create their own accommodation-only web brochure by branding the database in their own style.
This gives agents access to more than 16,000 apartments, villas and hotels, including a new range of 134 self-catering properties and hotels in the Greek Islands.
Previously the company has passed on the development cost of creating a seamless link between www.apartmentsabroad.com and agent websites. But this cost has been dropped for agents “who are able to demonstrate an ability and commitment to grow web business volumes”, according to Apartments Abroad.
The company claims to receive four million hits a month to its website, which now accounts for 84% of bookings.
Under the overbranding arrangement, Apartments Abroad acts as a principal supplier rather than a booking agent so that holidaymakers’ contracts are with the company and bound by UK law rather than with an overseas property owner. The company also offers consumer protection through an independently administered trust fund.
The Stoke on Trent-based firm’s managing director Ian Thirlwall said: “Bearing in mind that some of the more bullish commentators are forecasting the DIY holiday market will reach five million holidays by 2007, there are clearly significant revenue opportunities to be had by agents.”
